***Rebecca(96. Jan, 14)
Starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine(1940)
An impeccably crafted Gothic love story, this adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier's best seller was Alfrred Hitchcock's first American film. The mystery of Rebecca's death and the heartbreaking attempts of the new bride to emulate her sophistcated predecessor are interwoven by Hitchcock into an eerie triangle between husband, new bride, and the first Mrs. de Winter. Unsurpassed as a mystery romance, this atmospheric classic is Alfred's only film to win a Best Picture Oscar.
What makes this movie good and interesting? I consider it is Hitchcock's power to give audience suspence and curiosity from beginning to end. Even though the stroy is less plausible in my generation's point of view, I couldn't loosen the suspence.
I need to try to find out that what method Hitchcock used to give the suspence. one thing I noticed is that he creates a certain atmosphere. In this movie he succeeded in creating an mysterious and eerie atmosphere when the de Winters returned from the honeymoon. Other technic, well, I might as well say that I haven't perceived. But people say that he has a acute perception about human nature.
