신의 유일한 변명(사과)은 

그가 존재하지 않는다는 것이다.

(원래 사과로 되어 있는 것을 변명으로 바꾸고 사과는 괄호 안에 넣음)

니체는 스탕달과 관련해서 이 이야기를 하고 있으나  이 말을 먼저 한 사람은 볼테르임.
